6 x 9 cm negatives
The Negative Album
A Kodak Negative Album, one hundred 6 × 9 cm black and white photographs, including a number clearly taken at the 1939–1940 New York World’s Fair. The negatives were professionally scanned, and twenty-one of the best are presented here.
Nobody living knows who these people are, but the album was kept with our collection, which is why we have chosen to share the mystery here. And the photographs themselves are delightful.
Kodak sold these for filing negatives at home — a bound book of paper sleeves, one negative size to a book, so a family’s negatives stayed in order and out of the light.
Go with us, for a moment, on a fanciful journey where we imagine who these people are and the story these photographs tell.
